What happens when a name or a word is typed into a search programme, or a text is put into a web translation programme? In the background, the achievements of information technology, mathematics, and linguistics, as well as the  findings of language technology research are used. Their development is directly proportional to that of the Internet. Web 2.0 and semantics are notions quite widely known, but only few are aware of the meaning of the semantic web, and whether web 3.0 is coming soon, and what paradigm shift it may cause.
